According to the AMDV, the broadcast of audio tapes attributed to Noureddine Mediane, dignitary of the Istiqlal party (majority), “contains remarks which could be of a criminal nature under Moroccan laws and constitutes a serious threat both for the advisor and for those around her.” According to the association, the verbal violence of which the advisor was the target “highlight a broader reality regarding the condition of women in the Moroccan political landscape, vigorously criticizing those who seek to exploit gender issues for media or electoral purposes.”
Noureddine Mediane recently announced his withdrawal from the presidency of his party’s parliamentary group after the broadcast of audio content in which he made controversial remarks against Rafîa El Mansouri, former parliamentarian and vice-president of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al region council. The AMDV indicated “persist in his efforts to defend the rights of the victim and his family, standing firmly by their side in court in the face of the accusations against Noureddine Mediane.” Three separate complaints were filed against the latter by El Mansouri, her husband, as well as a relative affected by this affair. Mediane launched a counter-complaint targeting El Mansouri and one of his friends “for defamation and unauthorized disclosure of a telephone call.” El Mansouri’s lawyer welcomed the gendarmerie’s initiative to hear Mr. Mediane, considering it a significant step forward towards the resolution of this case. He also has “expressed his confidence in the Moroccan judicial system, ensuring that all legal procedures would be scrupulously respected.”
