The international team is indeed still in the game since 12 points will be at stake during the one-on-one confrontations. The scenario is not trivial since the Americans are on a streak of nine consecutive triumphs, between 2005 and 2022, at the Presidents Cup.

The last victory of the international team, the only one in the first 14 editions, dates back to 1998. A draw also marked the tournament in 2003.

“There are so many little things that are not going in our favor,” commented South Korean Tom Kim, visibly exasperated, after Saturday. I still believe in my teammates. I’m very tired at the moment, but I have confidence for tomorrow [dimanche]. I think when you run out, you have to try again.”

The South Koreans Si Woo Kim and Tom Kim were precisely those who saved the day for the international team on Saturday morning, winning quite easily, by four with three holes to complete, against the Americans Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark . However, they were unable to win later in the day against Patrick Cantlay and Schauffele, despite a superb approach shot from Si Woo Kim into the cup on the 16th hole to tie the match. After this feat, Kim also signaled to the Americans to go to sleep. Cantley, however, had the last word with a superb putt in the 18th.

Tough day for Conners and Hughes

Among the other players in action on Saturday, it was a tougher day for the Canadian duo of Corey Conners and MacKenzie Hughes.

Having tried to continue their momentum from the day before, Conners and Hughes instead suffered two defeats on a day that was as grueling as it was difficult in terms of results.

After a setback against Tony Finau and of alternating blows. The Canadians, who could be haunted by this half-point left at the last pennant, had nevertheless united their efforts for an eagle on the 12th hole, a par 5 of 574 yards, to get back into the match.

Also in the afternoon, Adam Scott and Canadian Taylor Pendrith scored a crucial win for the international team. Despite a very good start, Hideki Matsuyama and Sung-jae Im were unable to get the better of Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley.

Remember that the international team had achieved a sweep on Friday to create a tie 5 to 5 in this team competition. In addition to the defeat of Conners and Hughes, two other American pairs managed to win on Friday morning, namely Scheffler and Morikawa (against Scott and Pendrith) as well as Burns and Cantlay (against Matsuyama and Im). Cantlay had done it again in a big way with an eagle on the 12th hole.
