Edozie had nevertheless shown the way to a sublime goal: Anderlecht once again hanging on to Dender

Dender forced Anderlecht to share (1-1). The Mauves continue to tread water in the championship.

You don’t change a team that (gets back to) winning. After his first victory on the Anderlecht bench against Ferencvaros, David Hubert returned the team which was satisfactory in the Europa League, Anders Dreyer still returning to the eleven to compensate for the injury of Francis Amuzu, sending Samuel Edozie back to the left, to his best position.

It is clear that Dender gave Anderlecht a harder time than Ferencvaros. From the start of the match, the direct play of the promoted players hampered Sporting, whether through bursts in depth or during high pressing phases.

The locals thus obtained several clear opportunities, particularly during the set phase. But as in the week, Anderlecht was able to count on Edozie as an first post (28th, 0-1).

Where Anders Dreyer outperformed last season and fell into line a bit (like his first half), Edozie allowed Anderlecht to take the lead on what didn’t even seem like an opportunity.

Anderlecht jostled

But while Sporting seemed launched by this individual exploit (several opportunities in the process), Dender finished the first act with a new highlight, notably with a recovery of Aurélien Scheidler’s header diverted onto the post by Colin Coosemans and a corner cleared right on the goal line in stride.

The second period started again as the first ended, with a save from Coosemans on a too soft recovery from Bruny Nsimba. In the process, the Dender striker was much more inspired to catch Dendoncker in midfield and launch Aurélien Scheidler deep. The French striker got in tune with a finish in the top corner for the equalizer (53rd, 1-1).

Much less fluid than during the week, Anderlecht continued to look for itself. Boys like Mario Stroeykens and Anders Dreyer didn’t touch many balls. David Hubert’s triple change still did his team a lot of good. Tristan Degreef and Luis Vazquez almost stood out but the return of Dender’s defense to counter the first and the resumption of the second’s missed header decided otherwise (70th).

In a strong moment, Anderlecht continued to push, notably with a recovery from Dendoncker on the post and a save from Verrips on Luis Vazquezwell launched by Kasper Dolberg (75th). Despite everything, Dender held on until the end and could even have snatched victory in added time on a two-on-two.

But the locals could also have… lost everything in the process. In the last action of the match, Tristan Degreef thought he would give Sporting victory but was rightly flagged offside on Kasper Dolberg’s deflection. He will have, failing to make the difference on the buzzer, scored points this evening.

The promoted concludes his very strong program (Club Bruges, Standard, Genk and Anderlecht in a row) with a share before challenging Charleroi. Anderlecht, for its part, continues its fifth match in a row without a victory in the league.
