“Immortelle”, “Irreplaceable”… alongside Brigitte for the opening of the letters received for her 90th birthday in Saint-Tropez

Pair of glasses on the tip of her nose, diligent gestures but joyful four-legged companions coming and going without a net, Brigitte Bardot reviews some of the letters which since this week have reached the Tropezian shores of La Madrague by the bags.

However, it is on the heights of Capon, in La Garrigue, where she works at her office every afternoon in connection with her Foundation, that she officiates while Radio Classique belts out her chants in the background.

BB the warrior

No more declarations that day, if she receives us it is only to respond to our request to attend a session of opening letters that look like declarations of love bombarded by the whole world. Because despite his radical positions on the progress of the world and his strong temperament, there are no insulting or vindictive missives in these “tons” of letters which did not wait for his 90th birthday to arrive.

There, it is a resident who dedicates a poem to her, calling her “Goddess of the azure sea, sand and wind“. Here, it was other admirers who sent him paintings, jars of jam, bouquets, chocolates and even small cakes from Honfleur…

A lady quotes General de Gaulle and laments “the inelegance of a world where Paul Watson is behind bars“. Another admirer for whom she is the “synthesis of his two passions for animals and cinema“, praises the “warrior”. Others, like Nadia, wish to “immortal” the one they consider “irreplaceable”.

In the pile, also many very respectful requests for photo signings, magazine covers, etc.
Diligent and attentive, Brigitte annotates each envelope that particularly touches her with the word “Superb” in red marker.

Sometimes, she even contacts her letter correspondents directly by telephone. Like Bernard, who writes all his emotion at having received a voice message from BB, but also his dismay at having missed the divine call…

Missive venue d’Ukraine

Some take the opportunity to thank her for her kindness following the bottle of champagne and the handwritten note sent by Brigitte for their birthdays. “Our mother couldn’t believe her eyes!», writes Sophie de , supporting photos.

In addition to , the stamps come from as diverse as the United States, Russia, Canada, Japan, China, Germany, etc.
Then emerges from the lot, coming from Indre, a letter written entirely in… Latin! “that’s unique!», smiles Brigitte.

Follows the letter from an abbot who tells her that he understands the choice of a “monastic life” because of the fervent admirer of the Holy Virgin that she is.

The letter from Jora, 23 years old, surrounded by hearts and written in perfect French, arrives directly from Odessa, Ukraine to express all the strength that the heroine of Babette Goes to War inspires in him.

Hervé, who wrote to her at the age of 13, now 45, took up his pen again to testify to the extent to which Brigitte’s letter received in 1992 influenced his destiny, developing his passion for “animal welfare” which ‘he has since passed it on to his two daughters. François confides that he “saved a sheep from a méchoui» as a birthday gift.

Do not betray confidences

Overall, a lot of support and admiration where the qualifiers of “guide”, “model” and “voice of the voiceless” recur.

Often also confidences about difficult situations and very personal remarks which provoke great emotion in Brigitte who, in this case, wants to keep the manuscripts for herself alone, in order not to betray those who trust her so intimately…

It will also be about intimacy this Saturday evening, Brigitte having chosen, as usual for several years already, to blow out her imaginary candles, at home, surrounded by an ultra-restricted circle, limited to her husband, the director of her beloved Foundation… And how can we not mention her dogs and cats, totems of a fight which, crutches or not, keeps her upright vigorous and ardent!

Return to the “seals” box

Moreover, this Friday it was Brigitte’s turn to take up the pen to question Ursula von der Leyer, President of the European Commission about her most emblematic fight, the protection of seals as the debate on the regulation reopens who protects them…

“I am not asking for a gift for my 90th birthday but I would like us not to trample on the very rare advances obtained during these decades of fighting», she pleads in an unusual solemn tone which also symbolizes what is at stake in her request.
