Authorities expect “protest movements” against DAZN and beIN Sports this weekend

According to information from RMC Sport, the authorities are expecting a weekend of fan revolt against broadcasters during the fourth days of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.

The DNLH services are expecting protest movements against Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 broadcasters this weekend, according to information from RMC Sport. According to a document widely distributed to all territories that host a professional football team, the authorities are expecting “supporter actions” during this fourth day of the championship.

“Protest tarpaulins”, new “actions” feared in L2

This “command message” explains that the supporter groups are protesting against the rates of a broadcaster like DAZN. “To date, the demands are taking place on social networks but could take place in the stadiums by the display of protest banners,” says the document that RMC Sport was able to consult.

In addition to the broadcaster’s price for Ligue 1, there is the protest of Ligue 2 supporters against the programming of the multiplex by the beIN Sports channel on Friday evenings. The specialist services are expecting “actions” this weekend that will be “likely (…) to disrupt the broadcast and the proper conduct of the matches”. Several examples are broadcast: such as the use of lasers on the cameras, throwing objects from the stands or outside the stadiums. But also “attacks on property and people directly targeting the production companies”.

Since the start of the season, several Ligue 2 matches have been classified by the DNLH services, due to fears surrounding this protest movement. Some clubs could call on additional stewards. “When you see a Lorient-Red Star, two clubs with supporters very involved in this conflict, I hope that a way out of the crisis will be found quickly because the anger could grow”, explained a general manager of a Ligue 2 club, a few days ago, to RMC Sport.
