Founded in 2020, the British company Nothing has built a solid reputation in just a few years. Initially specializing in smartphones with innovative designs, it has managed to convince the general public with the Ear and Ear (a) in-ear headphones, both released this year.

For its new pair called Ear (open), Nothing has chosen the open design. The earphones sit delicately on the ear, for the pleasure of those who cannot stand intrusion or too much isolation. Like other Nothing creations, they are distinguished by iconic transparent shells.

Open design on the environment and avant-garde ergonomics

Like its competitors JBL Soundgear Sense, the Ear (open) are equipped with ear hooks. They would therefore offer excellent support thanks to a shape memory clamping system. In addition, for ideal positioning in the ear, Nothing has taken care to orient the earphone at 50 ° relative to the upper part of the hook.

According to the brand, each earbud weighs only 8.1 g. The Ear (open) are therefore much lighter than the majority of open earbuds of their ilk. The brand has also achieved a feat by developing a case that is only 2 cm thick. Finally, the whole thing is of course IP54 certified for safe use outdoors in the event of light rain.

An acoustic architecture designed to reduce sound leaks

On the sound side, the Ear (open) would draw their performance above all from speakers specially designed for the occasion promising low distortion and deep bass. Nothing would also have taken care to minimize sound leaks thanks to the Sound Seal diffusion system, which optimally directs the sound towards the ear canal.

Nothing obviously promises high-quality phone calls, with a range of technologies to reduce wind noise, isolate voices from ambient noise, and eliminate echoes. Connectivity should also be excellent. The brand announces a latency of less than 120 ms thanks to the Low Lag mode, accessible via the Nothing X app.

In addition, this app allows you to configure direct access to Chat GPT from a Nothing smartphone. In particular, it will be possible to perform image searches or perform prompts by simple voice command. The rechargeable battery of the Ear (open) has completely standard performance. It promises 8 hours of autonomy after a single charge and up to 22 additional hours thanks to the portable charging case.

The Nothing Ear (Open) are available for pre-order today for €149.
