The King inaugurates tram 10 in Brussels (photos)

LKing Philippe inaugurated on Saturday, alongside the Brussels authorities and the STIB, the STIB tram line 10 linking the city centre and Neder-Over-Heembeek. The sovereign took the controls of the behemoth on a route of a few kilometres through the town. The event attracted hundreds of residents.

The new line serves this former Brussels village, which is in full development and is home to some 32,000 inhabitants. The construction of the line, which was carried out at a brisk pace, took barely twenty months.

After an initial consultation with residents on the route in 2019, the permit application was submitted in November 2021. The public inquiry took place in spring 2022. The building permit was issued on November 10 and the laying of the rails began in January 2023.

The creation of this line was called for by the Brussels Region and the College of the City of Brussels, who wanted to open up, by public transport, this corner of the capital, hitherto served only by buses.

Connecting Neder-Over-Heembeek to Avenue Churchill in Uccle, passing through the centre via the pre-metro axis, this new tram service has 10 new stops and connections with several tram lines towards Heysel and also the ULB, with metro lines 2 and 6, and with bus lines 47, 53 and 56.

For users, the effective networking of the line is planned from Monday.

The service provided by tram 3, which until now transported passengers from Churchill (Uccle) to Esplanade (Laeken), will be absorbed from Monday by that of the new line 10 which takes over most of its route.
