Are these the first images of the Nintendo Switch 2?

An alleged leak is making headlines on social media from China. A series of images showing a prototype or factory plans for a supposed Nintendo Switch 2 are shown.

The long-awaited moment may have arrived. We may be discovering the first images of Nintendo’s new console. Maybe.

The supposed leak

This supposed leak comes from a Chinese site linked to the production of Nintendo’s new console. It is relayed on Reddit as well as the Resetera forum.

It shows images of a 3D rendering of a console that looks a lot like the Nintendo Switch. With a rather large adjustable stand on the back, a USB-C port on the bottom of the console, and two Joy-Con controllers.

The screen on the front seems better integrated into the chassis, like what the Nintendo Switch Oled already offered.

No other particular changes to note, the buttons would be the same and the physical game card slot would still be there above. A second USB-C port seems to be integrated above the machine, in addition to the port under the console allowing to connect to the dock.

We are also offered images of what would be the next-gen Joycons, with their new magnetic attachment system. This is one of the recurring rumors concerning the new console.

The last image is a list of technical specifications. We can see the integration of 12 GB (2x 6 GB) LPDDR5X RAM at 7500 MT/s and 256 GB UFS 3.1 flash storage at 2.1 GB/s.

The main chip would be developed by Nvidia under the reference GMLX30-R-A1.

Reasons to believe it

Although Nintendo is always quick to surprise us, it is expected by all analysts that its new console will be a direct sequel to the first Nintendo Switch. This allows to continue the concept of the hybrid console, to facilitate backward compatibility and the transition from one generation to another.

Facing what looks in every way like a Nintendo Switch therefore makes it credible. They are not trying to sell us the leak of a cutting-edge product: it is not something that Nintendo would be tempted to design with its strategy.

The Joy-Cons images are also consistent with what is expected from this new console.

Finally, the timing matches the arrival of Nintendo’s new console in mass production. When a technological product reaches this stage, the chances of it being the subject of a leak of this kind skyrocket.

Reasons not to believe it

Since the images don’t reveal anything surprising, anyone with a little knowledge of 3D modeling could propose the plans published here. Same thing for the photos, nothing is impossible in the age of 3D printing and fake images, especially since it is clearly a prototype and not the finished product.

Furthermore, the supposed spec sheet omits the screen’s specifications, which is strange since it is one of the console’s main components. In addition, it mainly just summarizes the rumors already published in recent months.

This supposed leak is mostly relayed on video game fan forums, but does not come from a reputable leak source, unlike what we had for the PS5 Pro. Here, no publication from Onleaks, EvLeaks, Roland Quandt, billbil-kun or even Tom Henderson.

As it stands, it’s impossible to say with certainty that this is a leak of the next console, even if the rumors in the industry are getting louder and louder regarding Nintendo’s plans.
