American rapper Sean Combs, better known as P. Diddy, is once again caught up in legal matters. The artist was arrested in New York on Monday, September 16, as confirmed by his lawyer to CNN last night. An arrest made after the rapper’s indictment was pronounced by a grand jury. The charges against P. Diddy have not yet been made public, but the man is expected to be charged with racketeering and sex trafficking according to the New York Timesciting the singer and businessman’s lawyer. Prosecutor Damian Williams is expected to provide details on Tuesday morning.
Diddy “voluntarily” traveled to New York City “in anticipation of these charges,” his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, said in a statement to AFP. The attorney expressed “disappointment” at “the decision by the United States Attorney’s Office to pursue what we believe to be an unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs.” Defending his client, Agnifilo described Diddy as “a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man and philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, loving his children and working to improve the black community.”
The American artist, who has won three Grammy Awards during his career, is the target of nine complaints filed since November 2023. Some of the complainants describe a rapist sexual predator who allegedly used alcohol and drugs to obtain their submission.
P. Diddy suspected of being involved in sex trafficking
The 54-year-old rapper, a figure of the 90s, has been at the heart of several legal cases since November 2023 and the complaint of his ex-partner, the R&B singer Cassie, who accused him of a rape in 2018 and of having had “violent” and “deviant” behavior for about ten years. She cited as an example sexual relations that he allegedly forced her to have with male prostitutes. A few months after the complaint was filed, a video dating from 2016 showing the singer beating his ex-partner was published. The case was finally settled with a confidential amicable agreement.
But since then, other complaints have been filed against P. Diddy. One of the women behind these complaints accuses the singer of having “drugged and sexually assaulted” her in 1992. Another filed a complaint to denounce a gang rape of a 17-year-old minor in which the rapper allegedly participated in 2003. The latest complaint was filed in July 2024 by Adria English, a former porn actress, for sexual assault. The plaintiff accuses P. Diddy of having used her “as a sexual pawn for the pleasure and financial benefit of others”. The facts they mention allegedly took place between 2004 and 2009 during parties in the Hamptons, in New York State. Sean Combs has always denied the accusations against him.
