The debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was watched much more than the one with Joe Biden

More Americans watched the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris than the one last June with Joe Biden.

A casting change and rising ratings. The highly anticipated debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on Tuesday, September 10, was watched by some 67.1 million viewers, reports the American news agency AP. Organized by ABC News, the event was broadcast on about fifteen other television channels.

Kamala Harris’ entry into the campaign seems to have pushed Americans to take an interest in the campaign since the previous debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, last June, had attracted “only” 51.3 million people.

The Trump-Harris debate, however, recorded a lower audience rating than that between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in 2020 (73.1 million viewers) and that between the Republican and Hillary Clinton in 2016 (84 million, a record).

Trump attacks ABC

Donald Trump said this Wednesday that his debate the day before with Kamala Harris had been “rigged” by the organizing channel ABC, and this in favor of its Democratic rival in the American presidential election in November.

“It was a rigged case, as I had alleged, when you look at the fact that they were correcting everything (I said) and they weren’t correcting her,” Donald Trump said of the ABC reporters who moderated the debate and who returned to the former US president’s misleading statements during the show.

For example, when Donald Trump took up his camp’s false accusation that migrants would eat animals company in an American city. Last June, CNN journalists moderating the debate with Joe Biden did not realize what fact-checking and direct.

A new televised confrontation between the two presidential candidates cannot be ruled out: the Democratic candidate challenged her Republican rival to debate a second time. The septuagenarian Republican did not formally accept this proposition, initially assuring that he did not want to “replay the match”. Before suggesting that he could change his mind if this new duel were organized by Fox News, the favorite channel of the American right.
