François Ruffin expresses his “shame” after having led an electoral campaign based on appearance in certain districts

The MP believes that the figure of Jean-Luc Mélenchon can be either “a master key” or “a dead end” depending on the person he is talking to.

Invited this Wednesday, September 11, on the airwaves of BFMTV and RMC, François Ruffin, “Debout” deputy of the Somme was questioned on several passages of his new book Itinerary, my France in its entirety, not halfwayin which he relates campaign anecdotes and expresses his doubts about certain electoral leaflets carried out on the basis of appearance.

According to him, in certain neighborhoods of Amiens-Nord, offering a leaflet with the head of Jean-Luc Mélenchon to a potential racialized voter of La France Insoumise is synonymous with “almost assured success” as the name of the leader of LFI serves as a “pass-partout.” On the other hand, faced with other potential non-racialized voters, this same name becomes “a lock.”

“It’s a worry, I felt ashamed when I came to do that. Unfortunately, I confided in my comrades who told me they were doing the same thing,” said the MP.

And the latter adds: “We find ourselves in the National Assembly, the story came from all the deputies of two different campaigns.”

Disagreements

During this interview, François Ruffin also showed his disagreement with the latest comments of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who felt that it was necessary to mobilize young people and neighborhoods because there “are the masses, people have an interest in a left-wing policy, everything else we drop, it’s a waste of time.”

“Even if they don’t vote for us, it is the honour of the left, its duty to speak of the working classes and not half-heartedly. Choice separates us with the leadership of the rebels, do we speak to the country as a whole or to the country half-heartedly,” he retorts.
