Heavy rains in the Alpes-Maritimes, cities take measures

The Alpes-Maritimes department has been placed on orange alert for rain, flooding and storms from 10am to 6pm this Sunday by Météo-France. In Nice, green spaces and the coastal path will be closed. The Mediterranean Football League has also announced the postponement of all regional matches.

Météo-France placed the Alpes-Maritimes department on orange alert for rain, flooding and storms this Sunday, September 8, as can be seen on their map. The alert is activated until 6 p.m. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, reacted on X: “Be careful.” He also announced that “all parks and gardens will be closed, as well as the coastal path.”

Same fight for Cannes

“The parks and gardens are closed until further notice,” the town of Cannes said in a statement. “Given the runoff, the Town Hall of Cannes has decided to preventively close the low access points to the Boulevard du Midi from the Leader and Alexandre Pascal passages,” it added.

The mayor, David Lisnard, was also quick to detail the actions implemented. “According to the forecasts we have at this time, the coastline would be more exposed. This is why, always in anticipation, I decided to open our Municipal PC this morning and to pre-arm our various protection devices (pumps, barriers, cofferdams, etc.) from now on. I also had all the drains and roadsides in the municipality checked and cleared, if necessary,” he detailed in a Facebook post.

Due to these forecasts, the Mediterranean Football League announced on X the postponement of all regional matches. “All Championship, French F Cup and Gambardella matches are postponed.”

The Var department has also been placed on orange alert for rain, flooding and storms.
