The city of Caen and its surroundings were hit by heavy rains at the end of the day, this Saturday, September 7. Several streets were flooded.

While the Channel was placed on orange alert for rain and flooding, the neighboring department of Calvados was hit by severe weather at the end of the day on Saturday, September 7.

On social media, residents of the Caen area shared images of certain streets flooded by several centimetres of water.

According to the specialist site 15 millimeters of rain fell in one hour, near Caen, at the very end of the day.

A tuba, a whirlwind of air that can be violent, was even spotted by Internet users near Caen, in the town of Moult.

A little less than a hundred firefighters intervened

With this bad weather, the tramway network suffered some disruptions shortly after 6 p.m., with a momentary interruption of traffic observed on lines T1, T2 and T3.

Train traffic has however gradually resumed according to Twisto, manager of the Caen network, with all stations being served again around 9 p.m. “Delays are to be expected,” the company nevertheless warns. .

In a situation report carried out at 7:30 p.m. and shared by the firefighters of the Sdis du Calvados, 90 interventions were undertaken in relation to the meteorological event.

The firefighters remind people that it is necessary to avoid unnecessary travel, to adapt their speed on the road, and to call for help only in cases of necessity and immediate danger.
