It is Michel Barnier, former minister and candidate for the LR primary in 2021, who was chosen by Emmanuel Macron to succeed Gabriel Attal.

He was also a European Commissioner twice, and finally between 2016 and 2021 negotiator of the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU, BrexitMichel Barnier has also held positions as a deputy, senator and European deputy.

Son programme in the right-wing primary in 2021 included plans for a “moratorium” on immigration, a salary increase for teachers and a capped single social allowance. Michel Barnier also wanted an increase in the number of prison places and the reestablishment of minimum sentences. He came third in the first round, with 23.9% of the vote.
