Var and Alpes-Maritimes on orange alert from Wednesday evening

The departments of Var and Alpes-Maritimes will be on orange alert from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, for “storms,” Météo-France announced in its 6 a.m. bulletin.

The meteorological agency specifies that a “Extension of orange alert to other departments remains possible”.

“Severe stormy weather is expected this evening and during the night from Wednesday to Thursday”according to Météo-France.

Thunderstorm activity will clearly increase in the South-East, particularly in the Var and the Alpes-Maritimes. Strong thunderstorms are expected, accompanied by very heavy precipitation in a short period of time, hail, gusts, and significant electrical activity, the meteorological service warned.

Accumulations of around 60 to 80 mm, fairly widespread, with peaks of over a hundred mm, are expected for this episode.
