FIGAROVOX/TRIBUNE – François Durovray, president of the Republicans of the Essonne department, calls on his camp to take responsibility. According to him, given the risk of chaos that our country faces, it is urgent to rise to the challenge.
François Durovray is president of the Republicans of the Essonne department.
The enchanted interlude of the Olympic Games over, the French approach this new school year swinging between anxiety and anger. They are both lucid about the difficult situation the country is going through and worried that the political class is not up to the challenge. Explosion of debt and risk of state bankruptcy; increasingly lively social protest; blockage of institutions…
The time has come to stop looking for culprits and to show responsibility. The time has come to show that we are up to the vote and the expectations of the French people who are asking political leaders to form the best possible French team, a team made up of talents capable of finding majorities of projects.
In the local authorities that we manage, we, as local elected officials, have long been accustomed to this exercise and it works! It is time for us to achieve this at the national level. Everyone must take a step in this direction. Faced with the current dangers, it is time for Republicans on the right and the left to work together in the supreme interest of the nation to get the country out of the rut.
The Republican left must also agree to erect a watertight barrier with the extreme left. Because the difference with the extremes does not reveal a divergence of degree but of nature.
Francois Durovray
The question in 2024 is not to stop casting for the 2027 presidential election. Thus, the right would be wrong to believe that it would be better to pass its turn for fear of being compromised with Emmanuel Macron. The French know our differences and our oppositions well and on the contrary they would not forgive us for our wait-and-see attitude and the risk of chaos that we would bring to the country if we did not sit around the table.
The Republican left must also agree to erect a watertight barrier with the far left. Because the difference with the extremes does not reveal a divergence of degree but of nature. The Republican left must follow the same path as the Republican right. It cannot ally itself with a Mélenchonist far left for pure electoral tactics while it recognizes its danger for the country.
The left and right of government must work more closely and accept contributions from partners; this is undoubtedly a show of courage, given the perilous nature of the exercise. But I also want to believe that in this troubled period we can find the energy to jumpstart and new working methods. Let us take inspiration from our Scandinavian neighbours. The solution to improving purchasing power through work, educational success, restoring the authority of the State, reducing debt, the efficiency of our health system, but also housing and transport, clearly requires new practices so that the decisions taken are not completely called into question at each changeover but are the subject of a minimal consensus between political, economic and social actors.
In a word, let us rise to the challenge. There is still time.
