IN VIDEO – After Brazilian swimming phenomenon Gabrielzinho, another Paralympic athlete impresses with his technique and sporting achievements.

After the Olympic Games, Paris has been living to the rhythm of the Paralympic Games since August 28. An opportunity for sports fans to discover the adaptations of disciplines to different disabilities but also the techniques of athletes to achieve sporting feats.

The latest example is undoubtedly that of Sheetal Devi. Since her entry into the competition on August 29, the dexterity and performances of the Indian archer in the women’s individual archery event have been the talk of social media. And for good reason, suffering from phocomelia, a rare congenital malformation due to which she was born without arms, the 17-year-old uses her mouth and feet to handle her bow.

Impressively precise

With her right foot, she sets up her arrow and stabilizes her bow. With her mouth, she hooks the string to a fastener installed on her shoulder and releases impressively precise arrows. So much so that by scoring 703 points out of a maximum of 720, the para-athlete beat the previous record of 698 points, thus qualifying hands down for the mixed team events.

It is worth noting that at the Asian Paralympic Games, which took place in Hangzhou (China) in 2022, Sheetal Devi had already won two gold medals in mixed doubles and individual. She thus became the first Paralympic archery champion to have no arms.
