Three men were seen on Friday morning on the fourth floor of a building in the east of the capital, firing into the air with handguns.

A police officer was sentenced on Saturday, September 31, to eight months in prison, suspended, after being arrested on Friday morning in Paris for having fired into the air from a balcony while he was off duty, without causing any injuries, the prosecutor’s office said on Monday, contacted by AFP.

Tried in appearance on prior admission of guilt (CRPC) – the French plea bargain – for endangering the lives of others, as well as for offences related to possession of a weapon, he was also sentenced to a ban on possessing or carrying a weapon for five years, the public prosecutor said.

Another police officer tried in mid-September

The person concerned had been arrested by the Research and Intervention Brigade along with two other police officers from the Public Order and Traffic Department of the police headquarters.

According to the prosecution, one of the two other police officers, also brought before the court for a CRPC in a case related to possession of a weapon, requested a delay in being tried and the hearing was postponed until September 16. Until then, according to the prosecution, “He was placed under judicial supervision with a ban on contact with the other accused, on carrying a weapon, and on going to his place of work.”The third police officer was not prosecuted, according to the prosecution.

The three men “immediately suspended”

According to a police source, the alert was raised after the three men were seen around 8am on the fourth floor of a building in the east of the capital, firing handguns into the air. The incident took place “a priori in a context of alcoholism”the police source continued.

According to a source close to the investigation, the weapons in question were an administrative weapon and an alarm pistol. When questioned, the police headquarters had only indicated that the three police officers had been “immediately suspended”.
