Under the sun
Relegated to the shadow of Kamala Harris since announcing his candidacy for the American presidency, Donald Trump went to Sierra Vista, Arizona, for a few days to sunbathe. There, he paraded for several hours along the border with Mexico, recalling the need to make it completely hermetic, before shaking a few hands, in this case that of Mark Dannels, sheriff of Cochise County, and that of Paul Perez, president of the National Border Patrol Council, the American border guards’ union.

Austerity plan
For the occasion, Donald Trump did not dress like a man of the field. He wore his usual charmless navy suit and his red tie devoid of finesse. On his feet, his eternal pair of black brogues, inevitably exposed to sand and dust. Incongruous? Enough to recall that in 1971, President Nixon was vilified for his excess of austerity, after being photographed, during a walk on the beach, also wearing strict black brogues. At the time, Nixon even had to justify himself: “This is how I feel good!”
The head of the job
To his left, Sheriff Mark Dannels was obviously dressed more appropriately. On his head, notably, rested a headdress, doubtless made of sisal, inspired by cowboy hat, characterized by two very distinctive elements. Thus, the hollow on the upper part, called the “crown”, allows for a quicker grip, which is not a luxury on a horse at full gallop. The hat in question also had raised edges. For what reason? To reduce the risk of the lasso hitting them in full swing, quite simply.

Peaceful pair
On the other side, Paul Perez, he presented himself with his head uncovered, but his eyes hidden behind sunglasses that were not without interest. These glasses are the famous ShadowStrike, from the Revision brand. Shock-resistant, anti-fog, anti-ultraviolet, equipped with a nose piece mechanism allowing a quick and easy change of lenses, the pair is widely worn in the elite corps of the American army. Are you under its spell? Then know that the color chosen by Paul Perez is “Tan 499”.
Money has no smell
Finally, a word about the young woman on the left of the image, Alexis Nungaray. In June, her 12-year-old daughter, Jocelyn, was killed in Houston, Texas, by two men who had illegally crossed the border, according to initial investigations. This mother now embodies Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric. That day, Alexis Nungaray wore around her neck proof that borders are never completely sealed. This series of pendants is indeed a testament to Mexico’s tradition of silver jewelry, the country being one of the major producers of this precious metal.
