Donald Trump signs the withdrawal of the United States from the WHO and the Paris Agreement

The withdrawal of theOMS would deprive the UN international organization of one of the most important sources of funding. During the 2024-25 budget cycle, U.S. contributions amounted to $662 million, or 19% of WHO’s total revenue.

The American law provides, however, that the withdrawal of this international body must be notified one year in advance, and after payment of all financial obligations of Washington towards him.

One of the signed decrees orders various government departments and agencies to end “censorship of freedom of speech“, while another aims to abolish the “instrumentalization” of the powers of the government against political adversaries.

Mr. Trump also confirmed his commitment to signing decrees declaring a state of emergency on borders with the Mexicoand ordering the completion of the construction of a wall along that border, according to press reports.

It will also involve the reintroduction of the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires asylum seekers to remain in their country of origin or transit while awaiting the decision of the American justiceand the repeal of land law for children born to parents illegally in the United States.

On Monday evening, the 47th US president also signed an executive order offering a 75-day moratorium on banning the app TikTok in the United States.
