GROWING DIFFICULTIES IN THE MEDIA SECTOR

After a period of silence, the Council of Broadcasters and Press Publishers of Senegal (CDEPS) is resuming its fight for the revival of the media sector. This Monday, January 20, a press conference is planned at the Babacar Touré Press House, from 11 a.m. This meeting, announced by the daily Les Échos, aims to address the challenges facing the sector since the third political change in Senegal in March 2024.

The Senegalese media sector is experiencing growing difficulties. Press professionals speak of a crisis marked by economic problems, competition from digital media, and challenges linked to press freedom. These problems have weakened many media companies, threatening the viability of several of them.
