Heartbreaking celebrity reactions to California fires

The Hallmark actor, who captured your heart in the “Murder She Baked” film series, saw his home in Altadena, where he lived for more than 12 years, burned to the ground. Sharing a video on Instagram, he wrote: “We are safe and sound. But here is what remains of our beautiful house. Our home where our children grew up and where they hoped to one day start their own family.”

His future grandchildren won’t be able to have the same experience as the actor’s children, nor will they be able to contemplate the family’s tangible memories. As Mathison explained to Good Morning America, “There are a lot of things that are replaceable, but the kids’ projects, the baby photos, the photos from my childhood, there are so many things.”

The actor, most recently seen in the 2024 Great American Family Christmas movie “Jingle Bells, Wedding Bells,” has also spent much of his acting career in the soap world, with roles on “All My Children” and “General Hospital.” After seeing the video of his burning house, his on-screen colleagues like Eva LaRue, Tamara Braun and Barbara Niven expressed their sympathies and support. Hallmark stars Danica McKellar, Merritt Patterson, Bethany Joy Lenz and Brooke D’Orsay also reached out to him. Lacey Chabert posted a touching note on Instagram: “I’m so happy you’re safe, but I’m so saddened for you and everyone affected. I’m sorry. I pray and send you all our love.”
