On January 14, 2025, the startup Sistema.bio, specializing in renewable energy for small farms, announced that it had obtained $3.5 million in funding from Novastar Ventures. This sum is part of a total fundraising of $7.75 million intended to accelerate the adoption of its biogas technology and digital tools across Africa.
Based in Nairobi, Sistema.bio transforms animal waste into biogas, providing a source of clean energy for cooking, electricity, and biofertilizers improving soil quality. Since its creation, the company has already positively impacted more than 100,000 farmers in 31 countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The financing is part of Novastar Ventures’ “Africa People + Planet” Fund, aimed at investing in sustainable solutions to climate challenges. This fund, which plans to raise more than $200 million, supports companies promoting access to clean technologies and adaptation to climate change.
At the same time, Sistema.bio strengthened its digital capabilities through the acquisition of Inclusive Energy, facilitating remote monitoring, data analysis for carbon reporting, and predictive maintenance.
