Tourism: “Fez-Meknes must better promote its historical monuments”

The Fez-Meknes region recorded 808,000 tourists in 2024, an increase of 4% compared to 2023. According to the figures revealed Monday during a coordination meeting chaired by wali Mouaâd Jamaï, classified tourist establishments counted 1, 5 million overnight stays for last year, up 3% compared to 2023. Should it be emphasized that this increase is of the order of 11% nationally (more than 26.4 million overnight stays and more than 17.4 million tourists (+20%).

For the first territorial manager, the Fez-Meknes region, which accounts for 40% of the Kingdom’s historical monuments, must do better. Especially since it has the potential to attract new customers. To achieve this, it is necessary to strengthen its attractiveness, densify its air connections, and boost its animation. The wali thus calls for the development of an annual cultural agenda, “the development of tourism in the historical heritage of the medinas of Fez and Meknes”, the promotion of ecotourism and thermal tourism, in addition to the creation of connections direct air flights with Africa. The ambition being to boost arrivals and extend the average length of stay (DMS), Jamaï wishes to exploit all the potential of the region in order to rank it in the top 3 of the best tourist destinations in the Kingdom.

Same story with Moulay Ahmed Sentissi, president of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Fez-Meknes, who wants to bring together all professionals in the region to promote the multiple facets of the destination. In terms of investment, Mouaâd Jamaï promises a red carpet for operators who will participate in the construction of 2,000 additional rooms. This is to strengthen the hotel capacity of the host city of CAN 2025 and the 2030 World Cup. More details in our next editions.
