As Cyclone Dikeledi approaches, Air Austral has reviewed its flight schedule for the coming days to the destinations of Mayotte and Nosy Be. Dzaoudzi airport will close this Saturday January 11 from 4 p.m. Mayotte goes into cyclonic orange alert at 8 a.m.
If Dikeledi, now a tropical cyclone, will not affect Reunion, other islands in the Indian Ocean area are preparing for the arrival of the system.
This Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the end of the day, Cyclone Dikeledi is expected to approach the northern tip of Madagascar, in the Antsirana region. After this short crossing over land, the system should emerge at sea and approach Mayotte.
This is why the prefect of Mayotte has decided to place the department on orange alert from 8 a.m. this Saturday, January 11. A red alert is planned for the night from Saturday to Sunday.
Mayotte airport, in Dzaoudzi, will close its doors this Saturday at 4 p.m. local time. The reopening is expected, at best, for Monday.
Under these conditions, the airline Air Austral has set up a crisis unit and reviewed its flight program concerning its connections with Mayotte and Nosy Be in Madagascar.
The company specifies that “passengers will be offered a travel alternative upon confirmation of the reopening of Mayotte airport and depending on weather developments” and that it will inform passengers individually.
“If the exact consequences of the cyclone on the island and the flight schedule have not yet been finalized, the different evolution scenarios for DIKELEDI are being studied and the company is monitoring the situation in real time. Its operational control center remains active and ensures permanent monitoring”
