Moroccan Bouchra Karboubi was ranked the fifth best female referee in the world by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) as part of its 2024 Awards.
Karboubi won the prestigious Prize for Best African Female Referee, during the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony, held on December 16 in Marrakech.
The first Arab woman to officiate an African Cup of Nations match as the main referee, during the CAN-2023 in Ivory Coast, she was also on the whistle during the 2023 Women’s World Cup, organized in Australia and New Zealand.
Karboubi also had the privilege of becoming the first woman to officiate a Botola Pro D1 first division football match, just as she was appointed to officiate the final of the 2019-2020 Throne Cup.
The Moroccan referee also received the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Prize for sports creativity at the start of the year as “best Arab football referee”.
The Englishwoman Rebecca Welch occupied first place in the IFFHS ranking of the best female referees in the world in 2024, ahead of the Frenchwoman Stéphanie Frappart and the Swede Tess Olofsson.
