Justin Trudeau tried until very recently to recruit the economist to make him his big financier, but “this discussion was concluded”, underlined Dominic LeBlanc at Telegraph Journaladding that “Carney is not an option.”

Rather, it was the elected official from New Brunswick who succeeded Chrystia Freeland, after she slammed the door of the Department a few hours before submitting her economic statement on Monday. Negotiations followed in Ottawa to find a replacement as quickly as possible.

Dominic LeBlanc will relinquish the Ministry of Public Safety during the next ministerial shuffle.

The Minister of Industry, François-Philippe Champagne, refused to take the reins of the Ministry of Finance on Monday, according to information obtained by -/CBC.

François-Philippe Champagne was next on the succession list at the Ministry pre-established by a routine decree of the Council of Ministers, according to -/CBC.

The minister has not received a formal offer to succeed Chrystia Freeland. He reportedly quickly expressed his preference to remain in his position, saying he still had work to do.
