Morocco will host the African headquarters of FIFA

Morocco will host the headquarters of the Africa Office of the International Federation (FIFA), under an agreement signed Monday evening in Marrakech.

Signed by MM. Aziz Akhannouch, head of government, Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, and Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), the headquarters agreement of the Africa Office of the International Football Federation in Morocco is part of as part of FIFA’s role in the development and promotion of football while considering the universal, educational and cultural impact of the discipline.

It aims to accompany and support all initiatives and projects aimed at the development of football in Africa.

The signing of this agreement also reflects Morocco’s constant commitment to promoting football and confirms the key role of the FRMF as a member of FIFA.

Under this agreement, the Moroccan government and the FRMF undertake to put in place measures to accompany and support FIFA projects. This involves supporting FIFA in all the procedures relating to the creation of its African Office in Morocco and making premises available for this office.

The two parties also undertake to facilitate the installation in Morocco of foreign employees of the International Football Federation and to support in the context of all administrative procedures to be carried out, both the FIFA African Office for the needs of the activities , that foreign employees of this office for the purposes of their stay on Moroccan territory.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Akhannouch indicated that the establishment of the FIFA Africa Office reflects the confidence of international sports institutions in Morocco, which has just experienced a historic week after the attribution to the Kingdom of the organization of the Mondial-2030, alongside Spain and Portugal.

He also assured that the Moroccan government will work to facilitate the procedures related to the establishment and management of this office.

For his part, Mr. Infantino welcomed the signing of the headquarters agreement for the FIFA Africa Office in Morocco, noting that this office will contribute to the influence of Moroccan, African and world football.

“It is a historic and exceptional day for FIFA, for Morocco and for all of Africa,” he said.

Mr. Infantino, on this occasion, sent his warm thanks to HM King Mohammed VI who, according to him, continues to work for the development of football in Africa.

The FIFA President also praised the growth of Moroccan football and the efforts made in this direction by the FRMF and the government.

For his part, CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his thanks to HM the King, the Moroccan government and people, as well as the FRMF for the Kingdom’s contributions to African football, adding that CAF is proud of Morocco’s achievements, both on and off the field.

The headquarters agreement for the FIFA Africa Office in Morocco was signed at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech on the sidelines of the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony.
