Speaking during the monthly session on public policy devoted to the issue of “Strengthening basic infrastructure”, Mr. Akhannouch indicated that “thanks to the high aspirations and tireless efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco was entrusted with the honor of organizing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup, which proves that the Kingdom has become an attractive destination for the biggest international events.
He assured, in this sense, that the government ensures that it implements the High Royal Guidelines, by taking all necessary measures to respect FIFA’s specifications, which requires an integrated vision and global mobilization in this regard. domain.
The Head of Government noted that preparations for the organization of the 2030 World Cup constitute a real catalyst and a unique opportunity to stimulate economic growth in the Kingdom, through the attraction of local and foreign investors and the acceleration of planned investments. across several sectors, including football, sports infrastructure, transport, tourism, information and communication technologies, security and health.
He also noted that the rehabilitation of the infrastructure which will host these competitions is underway, as part of the rehabilitation and construction program for large stadiums, launched by the government in the cities of Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Fez. , Agadir and Casablanca, in addition to the modernization of 45 stadiums and training sites.
And added that the construction work of the Grand Hassan II stadium in Benslimane is underway, with a capacity reaching 115,000 seats, stressing that this project is at the heart of a new urban development and territorial planning plan. , giving it a place as a major hub for the organization of national and international sporting, cultural and commercial events.
Regarding the urban and integrated development of cities, the Head of Government noted that work is underway to carry out development programs for the promotion of cultural and civilizational heritage, advocating the preservation of green spaces and the environment. , improving access to services, local social facilities and support for good governance, in addition to the protection and rehabilitation of the urban fabric, the strengthening and modernization of transport equipment, as well as the strengthening of infrastructure and road network.
The government is also working, continues Mr. Akhannouch, to implement a five-year program for the period 2024-2028, aimed at accelerating the fight against unsanitary housing and definitively eliminating slums for the benefit of 120,000 families, noting that this program is based on the principle of direct housing assistance as a financial mechanism to encourage rehousing in units costing 250,000 or 300,000 Dirhams, as part of the public/private partnership.
He noted that at the same time, a special redevelopment program will be launched in six host cities for future sporting events (Rabat, Tangier, Fez, Marrakech, Agadir and Casablanca), focusing particularly on urban development, road infrastructure, public facilities, tourist infrastructure and sports, health, cultural, social and security facilities.
In this wake, Mr. Akhannouch underlined that the Executive, aware of the important role of the cultural sector as a fundamental pillar of strengthening national identity, worked to implement an ambitious program giving priority to the protection and promotion of cultural heritage and infrastructure, notably relating to the implementation of major projects covered by partnership agreements relating to the Agadir urban development program, the rehabilitation of the National Institute of Science of archeology and of heritage (INSAP), the creation of the cultural center of the city of Fez and the rehabilitation and enhancement program of the Medina of Tangier.
He also mentioned the launch of the construction of the center for the protection and development of the archaeological site of Sijilmassa and the archaeological center of Jbel Ighoud in Youssoufia, in addition to the continuation of work on the restoration and maintenance projects of the Roman baths of archaeological site of Chellah, the restoration of the Kasbah of Témara, as well as restoration, rehabilitation and enhancement projects of historical sites damaged by the Al Haouz earthquake, among others.
