Karim and Saudi soft power, a well-paid love.
At 36, Karim Benzema is considering retirement. The French striker is however in good form, with 10 goals in 11 matches which make him the second top scorer in the championship, behind Mitrović and his club, Al-Ittihad, leader of the ranking. But he could end his career in 2025, and regain a role in Madrid within the club.
Benzema goes into politics
Although his contract runs until 2026, the former Real striker seems tired by the daily routines and special conditions of Saudi footballhe then reflected on his departure while remaining motivated and efficient, as revealed by the Spanish media Relief.
Despite a difficult first season marked by criticism and tensions with coach Marcelo Gallardo, Benzema has found its rhythm under Laurent Blanc. In addition, his role now goes beyond that of player: Benzema's image goes beyond the lawns as his remarks illustrate in the lines of GQ : « Here in Saudi Arabia, I am not only a footballer, I am also an ambassador. I'm here to bring in big European players in the near future, even if there are already big ones in the league. Our challenge is to raise it to the same level as the European championships. »
His future, however, seems linked to Real Madrid. In excellent relationship with Florentino Pérez, Benzema should become ambassador of the club, in particular to strengthen the presence of Meringues in the Arab world, specifies the Spanish media. This return to Madrid is part of a vision where its reputation would serve to increase partnerships and commercial opportunities in this key region.
