“The tram driver was in a state of shock following the accident and was taken to hospital for treatment,” said the Brussels prosecutor’s office. “The exact circumstances of the accident have not yet been determined and are under investigation.”
According to Stib, a public transport company in the Brussels region, the accident took place in an area where there are no stops or pedestrian crossings. “The tram runs entirely on site specific to this location,” explained Guy Sablon, spokesperson for the Stib.
“The accident disrupted tram traffic on lines 7 and 35 between the Van Praet and Meiser stops until the end of service on Sunday,” he added.
24 hours earlier, still along Lambermont Boulevard, a minor pedestrian was transferred to hospital after being hit by a bus. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m., at the intersection of Boulevard Lambermont and Avenue Princesse Élisabeth. “The investigation will determine the exact circumstances of the accident and, in the interest of this, no further comments will be communicated,” concluded the spokesperson for the police zone.
