Through AMREF/Health Africa and the adolescent counseling center (CCA), champion girls are taking up the fight against genital mutilation and gender-based violence (GBV) in Kolda. In this sense, together, they organized an awareness caravan on the harms of this practice in the villages of Dioulacolon, Bantancountouyel, Tankanto, Oumoul Koure. Thus, in the village of Medina Samba Diamanka, a violent film on genital mutilation and its consequences was shown in front of the populations. This is an opportunity taken by Cory Sène, sub-regional coordinator of the TG/ALM/the generation of girls/Support for the African movement for the elimination of female genital mutilation and excision program, to express his full satisfaction.
In the same dynamic, the project takes into account respect for girls’ rights to health while considering their development within cultural practices. This must be accompanied by the moral and physical health of boys and girls for endogenous development. Besides, girls are the future of our country, they must be protected against violence.
From Dioulacolon to Medina Samba Diamanka, Adama Diallo, departmental coordinator of young girls’ clubs, and the champions made home visits to raise awareness among families. Thus, they explained to mothers and fathers the harms of excision. Thus, this proximity policy of the Teen Advice Center under the leadership of its coordinator Babacar Sy aims to eradicate genital mutilation. Moreover, to achieve this, tips have been invented, notably the “new deal” and the “do no harm” approach based on trusting and non-conflicting communication.
According to Cory Sène, “I am in Kolda as part of the 16 days of activism, and I am very satisfied with the activities and results observed on the ground. By supporting this celebration by our consortium partner AMREF/Health Africa and the Champion Girls (CCA) of Kolda. »
In the process, he specifies: “I saw an inclusive strategy that combines the technical experience of leadership affirms girls champions and communities. In this sense, through the villages we visited shows that Kolda is really in a process of effectively eradicating genital mutilation…”
In this dynamic, the question of fabrication remains a concern among girls causing trauma before, during and after marriage.
