The City of Quebec, the Ministry of Transport and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) will make a major announcement Monday morning in relation to the tramway project.
One element that will possibly be revealed is the name of the tramway: “TramCité”, according to The Sun, information that was confirmed in Journal.
This information was obtained on Sunday, while the mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, was preparing to run, dressed in a Santa Claus costume, as part of the SIMONS Santa Claus Run in Old Quebec.
When asked about the possibility of an announcement on the tramway on Monday, Mr. Marchand advised us to stay on the lookout for a summons this Sunday afternoon.
“I say this through my Christmas hat, but things are progressing well,” he mentions.
The announcement will take place Monday morning at 10:45 a.m. in the presence, of course, of Bruno Marchand and the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Geneviève Guilbault, but also the President and CEO of CDPQ Infra, Jean-Marc Arbaud , and the minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, Jonathan Julien.
Simons Santa Race
Mayor Marchand wasn’t the only political “Santa Claus” who was on hand for the race Sunday morning. The federal deputy for Quebec and minister Jean-Yves Duclos, and the provincial deputies Étienne Grandmont and Pascal Paradis were also there.

For the 4th year, around a hundred Santas joined together to run for the benefit of the Fondation des Petits Happiness d’école, a foundation which aims to help the academic success of vulnerable children.
Each year, the event grows bigger and bigger: this year, the start was moved to Place Royale, due to the number of registrations. Around 500 Fathers and Mothers Christmas ran this year, but also 200 elves, who ran a shorter distance.

“We are doing this event in a completely unpretentious way,” says Dominique Guay, the co-founder of the event and president of the Fondation des Petits bonheurs d’école. The event was, in his words, born from a “brain bubble” of three running club managers who wanted to bring back smiles in a post-pandemic context.
“This morning, we were very close to our goal of $30,000,” rejoices Mr. Guay, proud of having raised a record amount for the foundation.
