Four people lost their lives in Haute-Saône following a collision between a car and a truck this Saturday early in the afternoon on national road 19 towards Lure, in the commune of Frotey-lès- Vesoul.
The victims' car veered off course for a reason still unknown before colliding head-on with the heavy goods vehicle and crashing into it. The truck tried to avoid it, in vain. The terrible shock caused the death of four people: two men, a woman and an infant. The three adults died instantly, and the baby could not be saved despite the intervention of the firefighters.
“The baby, a little girl, was in absolute emergency. The emergency services were unable to resuscitate her,” the Haute-Saône prefecture told France 3. It took nearly an hour to extract the victims from the passenger compartment using a heavy extrication vehicle. , specified the local press.
The deceased are a couple and their child, living in Noidans-lès-Vesoul (Haute-Saône), and a passenger who resided in a home welcoming migrants in Vesoul. The victims were aged 27 and 36 for the two men born in 1997 and 1988, and 25 for the woman born in 1999. The baby, a little girl, was four months old. They would be Sudanese nationals, according to information from France 3.
Following this fatal collision, the two vehicles following the Audi were unable to avoid the collision and were involved in an accident. In total, four other people, including the driver of the truck, were slightly injured and transported in a state of shock to Vesoul hospital.
Alcohol and drug screenings were carried out on the four slightly injured people, and only one driver of one of the cars involved tested positive for cannabis, specifies L'Est Républicain. Blood samples will also be taken from the three adults who did not survive the collision.
“It’s been a very long time since we had an accident with so many victims,” lamented Lieutenant Denis Laprévote, in command of operations.
