A terrible massacre cost the lives of five men on Saturday afternoon near . These five men were shot and killed by a 22-year-old man who eventually turned himself in to the police. We take stock of what we know.

What happened?

Alerted by a call, the gendarmes of Wormhout (North) discovered a man lying on the ground in the courtyard of a private home. The man who was shot succumbed to his injuries. Relatives say he went out into the yard when he heard a car. They say a man came out, opened fire and left. The man then heads towards the coast. Near the Flandres refinery in Loon-Plage, he shot dead two migrants with an automatic weapon. A little further on, in the port area, he came across two security agents from a surveillance company who were driving around in a car. He opens fire and kills them instantly.

Who is the murderer?

The alleged murderer presented himself spontaneously to the Ghyvelde gendarmerie (North). Aged 22, Paul D. was born in Dunkirk. He was unknown to the police, the gendarmerie and the courts. He was taken into custody.

How does he explain his action?

His motivations remained unclear Saturday evening. According to his first statements in police custody, reported by The Parisianthe trail of professional litigation could explain his terrible gesture, in connection with two companies in which he worked. The next few hours of police custody will allow us to see things more clearly.

Who are the victims?

The first man who was killed, aged 29, was said to be the manager of a transport company. He had young children. The two migrants killed are of Kurdish origin, according to The Voice of the North. The two security guards were patrolling for the ECS monitoring company. The ages of the other four victims are not yet known.

Was the murderer heavily armed?
