The WAEMU Regional Securities Exchange (BRVM) crossed a new historic threshold on December 13, 2024, with a market capitalization of more than 10,000 billion FCFA, the equivalent of more than 16 billion US dollars. This remarkable result testifies to the exceptional dynamism of this financial center common to the eight countries of the UEMOA region.
When it was launched in September 1998, the BRVM had a capitalization of 836.19 billion FCFA. In 2008, this increased to 3,336.65 billion FCFA, then to 4,031.38 billion in 2012. In 2021, it reached 6,085.41 billion FCFA, and in 2023, the volume of transactions increased. peaked at 7,966.96 billion FCFA.
Today, the BRVM has around 200,000 securities accounts and outstanding bond securities amounting to nearly 20,000 billion FCFA. This impressive progression of more than 1,102.94% since the creation of the BRVM is attributed to the sustained economic growth of WAEMU countries, which has posted an average of 5.8% annual growth for more than 20 years, as well as as well as the dynamism of market players.
In 2024, with a gain of more than 2,000 billion FCFA in one year and the IPO of the National Lottery of Benin (which raised 100.5 billion FCFA upon its entry), the BRVM is now positioned among the best performing African stock exchanges.
