In Manbij, a recently liberated Syrian town, the Syrian National Army (SMO) made a surprising discovery. A vast network of tunnels, large enough to accommodate vehicle traffic, was revealed after the end of the occupation by the PKK/YPG terrorist organization.
According to information transmitted on Wednesday by an Anadolu correspondent, these tunnels, discovered in a residential area, are still being explored and secured by SMO forces. The Anadolu team was able to obtain photographs of these elaborate underground structures.
The network of tunnels, interconnected in the center of Manbij, has not yet been completely measured, but their impressive size attracts attention. In these abandoned tunnels, the body of a member of a terrorist organization was found, highlighting the strategic importance of these constructions for the PKK/YPG.
This development comes after Operation Dawn of Freedom, launched in December. On the first day of the operation, the SMO took control of the district center of Tell Rifaat, and later liberated Manbij. This region, considered an important terrorist stronghold west of the Euphrates, was thus freed from the PKK/YPG.
