Government of Brussels, Arizona, and responsibilities of the right-wing parties: Paul Magnette, president of the PS, answered all the questions on the RTL info Signatures set.
President of the PS and former mayor of Charleroi, Paul Magnette was the guest of RTL info Signatures this Wednesday. Faced with Christophe Deborsu and Caroline Fontenoy, the socialist spoke on many subjects.
Among these subjects, the burning issue of the Brussels government. It’s been six months and two days since we voted. Brussels still has no government, while its budget deficit is growing dangerously. The PS withdrew from the discussions, even though Paul Magnette himself had announced that he would take responsibility. Has he changed his mind?
“No way“, answers Paul Magnette. “However, in Brussels, the PS is not in control. We are ready to enter into a government. The MR arrived first, it is up to the MR to find a solution. With the PS, believe me, we would have had a Brussels government for a long time“, he believes.
For the PS, the N-VA remains the problem in order to enter a government. “What poses a problem is the vision of the N-VA which calls into question the autonomy of Brussels, we must respect the people of Brussels“.
At the federal level, the PS chose the opposition after the elections of June 9. “The citizens voted, there was a shift to the right. It is up to them to form a government, but what concerns me is what this government is preparing. They are going to hurt the middle classes and the workers very badly. They wanted to reward work, but they do quite the opposite. This is also what the Flemish socialists of Vooruit are contesting. Saying that we are going to make pensioners or workers pay, all to give gifts to the rich, is not what we should do“, believes Paul Magnette.
Paul Magnette also expressed his desire to rebuild the PS. Would this also involve a name change? “It’s even“, he said. “This is not the most important thing, we will remain socialists. This remains a hypothesis“.
