A teacher from Baie-Comeau, Frédéric Bénichou, received the Raymond-Gervais prize on Tuesday, which rewards teachers distinguished by their contribution to science education in Quebec.

The science and technology teacher at Serge-Bouchard secondary school is praised in particular for his involvement as a science popularizer.

He started his school’s science club. In the summer, he acts as a guide at the Pointe-aux-Outardes nature park, where he hosts observation and astronomy evenings.

At the Estuaire School Service Center (CSS), he is the person behind the solar eclipse day of April 8. He gave the students a unique experience.

Having thus convinced management to keep schools open on April 8 and to obtain specialized glasses […]Frédéric Bénichou subsequently visited dozens of primary school classes to train teachers and students in anticipation of this experience which proved to be very successful.declares in writing the communications manager of the CSS de l’Estuaire, Patricia Lavoie.

The principal of Serge-Bouchard secondary school, Steve Ahern, considers that Frédéric Bénichou contributes to students loving science from adolescence.

Thanks to the projects he initiates in class, his involvement with young people, his accessibility and his extracurricular implications, he transmits his passion to students and their support is impressive.underlines Mr. Aherb in writing.

The Raymond Gervais Prize Fund, which has existed for 47 years, was created to pay tribute to Raymond Gervais, a pioneer of science teaching in Quebec.
