Kaolack, Dec 8 (APS) – Nine economic operators were arrested in Porokhane, in the department of Nioro du Rip (center) for non-compliance with the floor price set by the government for the marketing of a kilogram of peanuts, a-t -we learned on Sunday from the head of the regional trade department of Kaolack, Adama Mouhamed Mbaye.
This service responsible for ensuring the application of state measures regarding commercial transactions “caught these nine operators in the act when they were purchasing peanut seeds at prices lower than the floor price of 305 francs per kilogram set by the government after consultations with the various players in the peanut sector,” explained the Commissioner for Economic Investigations.
”There were a lot of rumors indicating that this approved price is not respected on the ground. Many collection points have been cited (…). It was following these reports that I sent three brigades to the field to assess the situation. This allowed us to catch these nine operators in the act, in Porokhane,” he added.
According to Mr. Mbaye, “the prices charged by these operators varied from 295 to 300 CFA francs per kilogram of peanut.”
The head of the regional trade service thus asked residents to work in “perfect collaboration” with the authorities in order to force economic actors to respect the minimum price set by the State of Senegal for this current marketing campaign.
The peanut marketing campaign officially started on December 5 throughout the national territory.
