A police operation was still underway late Saturday morning in the Migros shopping center in Montagny-près-Yverdon following an attack on a ATM. “A priori, it is an attempted break-in,” declared Marjorie Zumkeller, press respondent for the Vaud cantonal police at Keystone-ATS, thus confirming information from 24 Heures. The events took place around 4:30 a.m., during the night from Friday to Saturday.
ATM attacked with explosives
A little earlier in the same night from Friday to Saturday, unknown persons blew up another ATM in Rossens (FR), before fleeing in an unknown direction, the Friborg police communicated on Saturday. A major police force was put in place and a call for witnesses was launched.
The police were informed of the explosion around 2:55 a.m. and obtained reinforcements from the Vaud and Bernese law enforcement agencies. The EOD group (neutralization, removal, destruction of explosives) of the Vaud police was called upon to secure the scene and establish the origin of the explosion. The federal police (fedpol) and Zurich experts also intervened. Only material damage was reported. The thugs were still on the run Saturday afternoon.
