Despite an invitation sent by the French, Justin Trudeau’s office confirmed that the Prime Minister would instead be in Montreal to attend the commemoration of the Polytechnique massacre on Friday evening.

Saturday morning, the day of the cathedral’s inauguration, Mr. Trudeau will hold activities in his riding of Papineau.

The guest list also includes the Prime Minister of Quebec, François Legault.

“It is a great proof of the privileged relationship between Quebec and as well as the strong historical and cultural bond between our two nations. The reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral after its restoration is a historic moment. That Quebec is invited to take part is a sign of this great friendship,” Mr. Legault said in a press release earlier this week.

Prince William, the first lady of the United States, Jill Biden, as well as many presidents of European and African countries will be present.

Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral was ravaged by flames on April 15, 2019, an event that shook the entire world. This architectural marvel is ready to reopen after five years of major restoration work.
