It is a safe bet that even before being designated, the research section (SR) of the Rennes gendarmerie already had an eye on the investigations carried out by the Guingamp gendarmerie company (22). The national impact of the disappearance of Morgane Rivoal in Pabu undoubtedly contributed to its referral, as did the criminal potential of the case.
Analysis of digital traces
This regional judicial police service is made up of more than 50 investigators regularly confronted with complex, sometimes international cases. It has investigators with rare skills, particularly in criminal analysis, technical policing and new technologies. This last point will prove crucial for the analysis of digital traces. They are also used to working with the national level of the gendarmerie, whether it is the IRCGN (Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie) or the national Cyber unit, both based in Pontoise (Val-d'Oise) .
Judicial reconciliation software
Since the opening on Monday of the judicial investigation for “research into the causes of the disappearance” of Morgane Rivoal, a working group of around ten gendarmes, under the orders of a director of investigation, has probably been constituted. They began to sift through the elements already collected by their Costa Rican colleagues during the flagrant investigation.
