Luxembourg provides medical equipment to Rwanda as part of the fight against the Marburg virus

In response to the declaration of the Marburg virus disease (MVD) epidemic in Rwanda on September 27, 2024, and at the request of the Rwandan government within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, Luxembourg made available 330 pallets personal protective equipment and medical devices in Rwanda. Thanks to co-financing from the European Union, the equipment was delivered on December 3, 2024 and received by local partners.

The contribution is made with a view to consolidating the response efforts of Rwandan health authorities in the fight against the virus. By mitigating the risk of the spread of communicable diseases and replenishing stocks of equipment, Luxembourg intends to contribute to the protection of health personnel in the field and the strengthening of public health on a global scale.

The collection and transport of emergency supplies, offered by the Ministry of Health and Social Security, was coordinated by the Directorate of Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, in close collaboration with the Corps grand- ducal fire and rescue service (CGDIS), private sector partners and the Luxembourg embassy in Rwanda.
