The Bikini Test concert hall in La Chaux-de-Fonds (NE) is experiencing “serious” financial and human difficulties. To remedy this, the KA association is announcing measures this Tuesday, including the resizing of its season from February 2025, and is launching a call for donations.
The Bikini Test has been a flagship cultural venue in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and beyond, since 1992, recalled the KA association in a message posted on its website. After two deficit years, including a second which brought the figures into the red, the financial situation is described as worrying.
Those responsible are in contact with the City of La Chaux-de-Fonds. However, there is currently no short-term solution in terms of reevaluation of subsidies. This is why the committee sees itself obliged to “significantly” reduce the number of evenings organized from February 2025.
General problem
The objective of the KA association is not only “to ensure financial balance at each event, but also to preserve the energy and commitment of the team members”, specifies the press release. The situation in the Chaux-de-Fondière room does not represent an isolated case in French-speaking Switzerland.
Other concert venues are facing similar difficulties and must cope not only with the increase in the financial demands of artists, but also with changes in the habits of customers, less inclined to this type of leisure than in the past.
