The 72-year-old former film producer was diagnosed with leukemia in November. His lawyer, Imran H. “Harvey Weinstein, who suffered from a lack of adequate medical care and endured deplorable and inhumane conditions at Rikers Island, was transported to Bellevue Hospital for emergency treatment due to an alarming blood test result that requires immediate medical attention,” he said in a statement.

“He should stay there until his condition stabilizes. His deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice, but a violation of his constitutional rights. »

Harvey Weinstein’s spokesperson also released a statement saying the ex-producer was facing “cruel and unusual punishment” at the New York correctional facility, known for its poor conditions and scheduled to close in 2027.
