Thomas Dermine, mayor, thanked Paul Magnette after receiving the mayoral sash. “You were a mayor with a strong imprint on Charleroi”he said after a frank hug between the two men. “The urban space has been transformed, and you have led a fight to restore historical errors. Our city has a rich history, which we carry in our hearts. I hope that Charleroi, a zebra city like its jersey says the song, in its diversity continues to ensure democracy, plurality, in these dark hours for world politics.”

But he also emphasized it: “Charleroi obviously shares successes, but also frustrations. Projects that are not progressing, incivility, insecurity, mobility problems… I therefore promise to be a daily mayor, so that Charleroi continues to be and become, not just having been. It’s going to be a great adventure.”

He then knighted his municipal college: Julie Patte, Eric Goffart, Karim Chaïbaï, Babette Jandrain, Mahmut Dogru, Alicia Monard, Maxime Felon, Ayse Aktas and Tanguy Luambua. Philippe Van Cauwenberghe, currently a simple municipal councilor, should be appointed president of the CPAS in the coming days.

The municipal council as a whole then unanimously appointed Nathalie Monforti as president of future council meetings. Here they are gone for six years!
