DECRYPTION – Sunday evening’s results could plunge the country into the unknown with the Chamber possibly divided into three blocs, making it difficult to form a majority.

Rarely in recent history has an election been so uncertain. Since the surprise dissolution of the National Assembly by the President of the Republic, almost a month ago to the day, France has been holding its breath. On Sunday, at the end of a quick campaign in which all camps tried, often in haste, to pull out all the stops, 577 deputies will be officially elected. And will therefore be required to sit, from July 18, at the Palais Bourbon. After a first round dominated by the National Rally and its allies, last Sunday, the week was marked by more than 200 withdrawals from left-wing candidates and the Macronist camp. Objective: « to face up to » to avoid the numerous three-way contests which would favour the election of deputies from the Marinist party and thus lead to an absolute majority for the RN in the Lower House.
