DIn a press release, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection indicates that this year, Morocco has chosen to commemorate this world day under the slogan “For a Morocco without AIDS, without sexually transmitted infections, without viral hepatitis and without tuberculosis. ‘by 2030’.
On the occasion of this meeting, which was attended by the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, the governors of the provinces and prefectures of the region, the president of the Council of the region , representatives of ministerial departments, public institutions, public and private professional bodies as well as representatives of civil society, a charter of commitment was signed between the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the Wilaya of the Souss-Massa Region and the Regional Council in addition to other institutional partners and civil society actors.
Under this agreement, the parties commit to sharing expertise and good practices in order to eradicate HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis and tuberculosis by 2030 in the Souss-Massa region. , indicates the press release. This charter also aims to reduce new infections linked to HIV and sexually transmitted diseases by at least 90%, to reduce mortality linked to viral hepatitis by at least 65%, as well as to reduce the mortality rate due to tuberculosis of 65% and its incidence rate of 35%.
This meeting, continues the ministry, is part of the integrated national strategy to combat AIDS, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections for the period 2024-2030.
This strategy aims to eliminate the HIV epidemic in Morocco, as a public health problem by 2030, in accordance with the objectives of sustainable development, and according to a participatory approach aimed at eliminating all the determinants of these diseases, whether health, social or economic, in collaboration with civil society organizations and government institutions, as well as with local and international partners.
According to data from the National HIV Program, more than 23,000 cases have been recorded to date. Among them, 78% of the people concerned are informed of their serological status, 94% receive appropriate treatment and 94% have an undetectable viral load.
