Action plan for public health training in Quebec

Faced with the numerous and growing challenges in public health facing the workforce, major employers and public health educational establishments have equipped themselves with Action plan for public health training in Quebec. The approach, led by the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), mobilized nearly thirty organizations for the development of this tool who will be just as involved in its implementation.

The result of sustained involvement of participating organizations, the Action Plan is an engaging tool that will guide collective action from winter 2025, through 11 actions and 9 projects. It aims to:

• Improve the attractiveness of public health;

• Strengthen the practice of public health in initial training;

• Develop continuing education and professional support;

• Reduce obstacles to limited accessibility to resources and training in the region.

It is up to the INSPQ to coordinate the implementation of the Action Plan and to support the organizations that have come forward to act as leaders or collaborators in an action or project.

The Action Plan is situated in the context of a profound reform of the governance of the health system with the creation of the Santé Québec agency and the development of the National public health program 2025-2035. The development of this plan is also part of an international initiative led by the World Health Organization aimed at strengthening the “Capacity of national personnel for the implementation of essential public health functions”.
